Banana Keeps Up Your Heart Health

Banana has been a healing fruit of the poor throughout the world. Though it is a plant of tropical regions, today it is available everywhere. You can find bananas as the cheapest fruit in the grocery stores. It is said that there are more than 500 varieties of bananas. Banana can be used as a vegetable and as a fruit. It is very healthy for heart.

Banana is a rich food. It helps maintaining heart hearth. Plantain, the close relative of banana, is longer in appearance and is more starchy than banana. Plantain is commonly used as a vegetable. A banana fruit is more useful than plantain fruit. Both banana and plantain fruit are found mostly in tropical countries where they are used as one of the main staple foods.

Prepackaged in nature’s yellow jackets, banana is a sweet and creamy fleshed fruit available throughout the year. There are more than 500 types of banana varieties. The banana plant produces finger-like bananas in bunches. You can find banana in bunches. Each species varies in the number in bunches. Green and unripe banana is cooked as vegetable. When it is fully ripe the fruit turns yellow and tastes sweet.

Health benefits of banana

Banana contains many minerals and vitamins. The fiber content of banana helps health in various ways. Banana is full of potassium, folate and vitamins A, B and C. It is considered as a wholesome food, which comes in nature’s germ-proof package.

Three important health benefits of banana

1) Banana fights heart diseases

American Heart Association has approved banana for meeting its standard levels of  saturated fat and cholesterol. Banana reduces the risk of heart diseases, by reducing homocysteine in the blood.

2) Potassium in banana lowers high blood pressure

As stated above, banana is a well known source of dietary potassium. The rich content of potassium and low content of sodium diet help lowering high blood pressure. Just one banana can supply you 15 percent of your potassium requirement. Dr. M. Sacks, professor of nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health, suggests that eating fruits such as banana lowers the risk of high blood pressure.

3) Banana is good for building up bones

It is really interesting to note that the soft and curved banana can keep your bones strong and straight. Potassium in banana promotes bone health by helping absorption of calcium. Potassium keeps up the loss of calcium through urine. Studies reveal that people who take more potassium diet have less bone problems. Potassium increases the bone density. hence high potassium diet lowers the risk of bone ailments such as osteoporosis.

Banana is a very healthy staple food for children. You can dry banana and use it as powder. Banana is a rich source of minerals and vitamins. Do not forget to add banana in your diet.
